PONDS FOR KIDS PROGRAM

The ponds for kids program is our way of contributing to the Community.  We strongly believe in the educational aspects of an organic water feature.  Kids can not only learn subjects ranging from math to chemistry to art to philosophy, etc., but will do so enthusiastically!  In addition, by including the kids in the planning and construction phases of adding a pond to their educational facility, it gives them a sense of accomplishment, boosts their self-esteem, and they think of it as theirs (not just another teaching tool).

Also, these organic ponds are now being used by Arizona Game & Fish as refugia ponds to house, protect, and increase the population of our endangered Gila Top Minnows.  This program is especially important in light of the West Nile Virus, because these little guys are voracious eaters of mosquito larvae!

Some of the schools that have these ponds are:

Desert Harbor Elementary School

Awakening Seed School

Apache Elementary School

Desert Valley Elementary School

Benchmark Elementary School

Montecito Elementary School

Arcadia Learning Center

Arrowhead Montessori School

Below are pictures of how much fun the kids had at Apache Elementary in January!

If your school or educational facility is interested in pursuing this program, please contact Arizona Game & Fish, Heritage Fund Program, at www.azgfd.com, under "Other Programs."
